Flaky Particles Flaky particles are those whose least dimension is times lesser than the mean size. Thickness of these particles are comparatively smaller than the other two dimensions. Maximum allowable limit of the flaky particles in the mix is 30%. If it exceeds this value then the mix is considered unsuitable for construction purpose.
Particle size, also called grain size, means the diameter of individual grains of sediment, or the lithified particles in clastic rocks. The term may also be used for other granular materials . [1]
the one having the smallest openings at the bottom, and a pan underneath to ch material passing the finest sieve (Fig. 1). Sieve sizes commonly used for concrete aggregates are detailed in Table 1, and various physical properties of normalweight aggregates, with typical range values, are shown in Table 2.

The method is used for larger sized aggregate such as 20, 14 and 10mm. The accuracy of the result is based on 2mm slot variations due to aggregate size. The method is used for the smaller sized aggregates such as 7 and 5mm. This form of the test is based on 1mm slot variations as the smaller size packs differently and gives a closer ...

· We need your expertise on what Gravel size for our stalls and shelters. We were given a full load of 5/8 minus, but my friends say it's too small and we need like 1 1/4" minus gravel. We plan to use 5" of gravel, Geo Fabric under and on top then 2" of .
Aggregate impact value, AIV, aggregate crushing value, ACV, and 10 per cent fines loads, however, are aggregate size dependent. Tests on larger aggregate sizes give higher test values, whereas tests on smaller aggregate sizes give lower values than test results for standard size aggregates. For each rock type there is a different set of sieve ...
· Aggregate Impact Value Test : This test gives the Aggregate Impact Value (AIV), which is an index of the resistance of. aggregate to sudden shock or impact. The apparatus used for this test is called Impact Testing Machine. A sample of aggregates in surface dry condition, which pass through mm sieve and are retained on 10 mm sieve are ...
Aggregate impact value gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to sudden shock or impact, As an alternative to crushing value, the aggregate impact value should not exceed 45% by weight for aggregates used for concrete other than for wearing surfaces and 30% by weight for concrete for wearing surfaces, such as runways, roads ...

2. A low aggregate crushing value indies high crushing strength of aggregates. 3. Aggregates having elongation index values greater than 16% are generally considered suitable for pavement construction. 4. Flakiness index of aggregates should not be less than 25% for use in road construction.
· The testing conditions for abrasion loss and crushing value were somewhat modified, as mass of sample = 2500 g, number of steel ball = 4, rotation speed = 500 rpm and size of passing sieve = mm for abrasion loss test and diameter of cylinder = 75 mm, load = 3t, pressurized time = 3 min and size of passing sieve = mm for crushing value test.

· By the CT 382 definition, the maximum aggregate size is 3/4" and the nominal maximum aggregate size is 1/2". In the November 2011 version of CT 202, nominal maximum aggregate size is defined as "one sieve size larger than the first size to retain more than 10%." By this definition the nominal maximum aggregate size for the material example ...
· Aggregates are used in concrete to provide economy in the cost of concrete. Aggregates act as filler only. These do not react with cement and water. But there are properties or characteristics of aggregate which influence the properties of resulting concrete mix. These are as follow. Composition. Size Shape. Surface Texture.
